Tata Teleservices is driven by a passionate commitment to improve the organization, society and the environment. As a member of the Tata Group, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is at the core of the organization. The Company actively supports the social and economic development of communities through various CSR initiatives which are designed and implemented through partnerships with non-profit organizations, agencies and other Tata Group Companies.

The Company firmly believes in giving back to the community and bringing a positive difference in the lives of underprivileged members of our society. Most of the CSR activities are by way of volunteering by employees and these tend to be mostly in locations where there is a critical mass of employees. The projects are undertaken based on the thrust areas of Education, Healthcare, Environment Sustainability and maintaining the quality of soil, air and water. The Company also partners with Tata Sustainability Group (TSG) as well as other Tata Group Companies to participate in various volunteering projects and initiatives during the year. All CSR activities are tracked to determine the outcomes achieved and the benefits offered to the community.

TTL employees also participate in Group CSR Programs including Tata Volunteering Week and ProEngage. Tata ProEngage is a part-time skill-based volunteering program, where volunteers work individually or in teams (cross-company groups) and use their skills to address specific problems identified by NGOs.

Introduction

Our CSR initiatives are focused on empowering communities through education and livelihood opportunities. Our initiatives and outreach activities are aligned to the Tata way of doing things for the community. What comes from the people goes back to the people many times over.

Our CSR activities are based on three broad indicators of development namely:

  • Human Capital
  • Social Capital
  • Economic Capital

Projects under these three core areas focus on education geared towards employability, employee volunteering and employment generation.

Human Capital

This refers to the individual’s innate abilities, talents, knowledge, skills and experience that make them economically productive and applies to our employees as well as the communities we work with.

Volunteering

Employees are encouraged to share their time and skill working with our partnered NGO’s. In addition, volunteers engage actively in Tata Group Volunteering Programs – Tata Volunteering Week and Pro-engage (short term focused projects with NGO’s) which brings together employee volunteers from across the group companies to collaborate and contribute to various CSR initiatives.

Social Capital

This indicator focuses on creating social wealth for the communities that we partner with.

  • Healthcare: Our efforts are aimed at ensuring good health and well being of the employees and the communities we operate in.
  • Empowerment: We use our core competence to disseminate need based information to communities that empowers them to take initiatives and decisions to solve problems and improve their well being.
  • Community Development: In a role as a facilitator, we work in partnership with like-minded NGOs/ CBOs to meet identified needs of the community.

Economic Capital

The company undertakes initiatives and projects which are geared towards livelihood creation, employability and entrepreneurship to empower communities.

2014-2015:

  • Project Optimus nominated for AIMA’s Innovation Practitioners Summit 2015 in the Environmentally Sustainable Solutions category.
  • Project Optimus was nominated for “The Green Mobile Award” at GSMA global mobile awards 2014.

2011-2012: Tata Teleservices Limited received the Special Jury Recommendation Award for its Project Drishti, at FICCI Business World CSR Awards. - Read more
