A Veteran Manufacturing Company Adopts TTBS Endpoint Security to Counter Advanced Ransomware Threats
Introduction
Founded in 1950s by a family of first-generation entrepreneurs, the company was started as a trading enterprise to supply diesel based agricultural pump sets and generators used by local industries and farmers. The owners established their own factory in a small town of Tamil Nadu in 1966 and it was inaugurated by the then Minister of Industries Shri R.Venkataraman (Former President of India).
Over the years, the enterprise diversified its product portfolio and replaced some of the older machines with more innovative ones. It continues to be managed by the younger generation of the same family today and has a mission to continually upgrade its skills and processes with evolving technologies. The organisation aims to achieve market leadership backed by customer satisfaction and also focuses on the well-being of its employees and community welfare.
To improve cybersecurity in its work environment and ensure that business data is safely stored across devices and servers, the company sought an effective endpoint security solution. It needed a system that would offer data loss protection, application controls and next-generation anti-malware services.
Tata Tele Business Services (TTBS) offers a thoughtfully devised Endpoint Security solution that leverages real-time threat intelligence to help organisations enhance their vigilance against known and unknown cyber threats. After a discussion on how our system mitigates risks and shields data without impacting the efficiency of a device, the manufacturing company asked us to deploy the solution.
Business Challenges
Cybersecurity has become a major concern for all businesses today as the increased usage of cloud solutions is accompanied by growth of online threats.
Like many other small and medium enterprises, the company wanted to establish a strong cyber defence mechanism particularly to tackle the menace of ransomware.
company had been using a rather costly endpoint security application to protect its devices and 22 servers against malware such as worms, Trojan, file infectors and polymorphic virus. However, the service was unable to provide adequate protection against ransomware and sophisticated spyware.
was critical to implement a more advanced solution that would optimize cybersecurity for both server and client devices. Additionally, the company wanted the new solution to be more effective at:
TTBS Solution
After reviewing the customer’s requirements, the TTBS solution architect implemented the comprehensive endpoint security solution:
- Preventing phishing, spearphishing, whaling, advanced persistent threats and botnet attacks
- Countering attacks that also involve use of scripts and macros, and not just malicious executable files
- Making remote work secure for all employees using company-owned or their personal devices
In summary, the aim was to provide vigorous protection and prevent threat actors and malicious campaigns from accessing any endpoint, whether it was on a device or in the cloud.
The endpoint security solution offered by TTBS has been designed by WatchGuard. It is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) tool that we deployed for all the 22 servers and 148 client devices including desktops, laptops, and mobile devices used by the company’s employees. Ransomware protection was an in-built part of this solution.
TTBS Endpoint Security service’s subscription cost the company less than the software that they had been using earlier. And it came with stronger protection against known and emerging cyber dangers that threaten business operations.
The solution was seamlessly activated for all the devices without slowing them down or burdening them with complexities. And it addressed the problems that the manufacturing company was worried about:
- TTBS Endpoint Security had a zero-trust stance and provided real-time protection against different kinds of malware, viruses and the ransomware threats that block access to a machine or database.
- It established a strong mechanism capable of preventing attackers from getting a foothold in any device or server, whether it is through JavaScript, HTA, VBA, VBS, or batch scripts.
- Being a cloud-based solution, it was configured for all devices and allowed employees to work securely on their device using any internet service, at any location.
The security solution provided by TTBS was backed by an end-to-end service level agreement. We continue to offer round-the-clock technical support and the application is automatically updated with latest patches to keep cybersecurity resilient.
Besides next-gen anti-virus, EDR and DNS filtering solutions, TTBS Endpoint Security gave the organisation a full stack of integrated modules for better patching, extended visibility, and data control. It gave the customer a strong assurance that their IT assets and data were safe against looming dangers in the online space.
