Bangalore-based Leading News Aggregator Invigorates its Network Uptime with TTBS Smart VPN Solution
Introduction
Based in Bangalore, the company is a news aggregator offering content in 15 Indian languages. The articles and visual media can be accessed via its website and mobile application available on Google Play. The content selection includes daily headlines on topics of nationwide significance, regional news, business, technology, sports and entertainment.
Using its proprietary Artificial Intelligence-Machine Learning (AI-Ml) based technology, the company also enables businesses to publish targeted advertisements in different sections of its website and application. The pan-India reach of the platform and its AI-powered advertisements stack make it a preferred choice for both content consumers and advertisers.
As the company was working from several offices across India, it needed a private network to keep them linked for effective collaboration. Besides the security of the network, the priority was to maximise its availability. The teams could not afford to lose access to the data they needed for the timely updating of the website.
After checking the features and price of networking solutions available from different telecom service providers along with the Service-Level Agreements (SLAs) they offered, the company chose Tata Tele Business Services (TTBS). The IT team was convinced with the benefits of our Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) based Smart Virtual Private Network (VPN) and asked us to implement it for their offices.
Business Challenges
Located in different parts of the country, the company’s workplaces needed secure links that could keep them connected on a private wide area network irrespective of the data services they were using.
The IT team knew that MPLS is the best solution to build private connectivity for geographically dispersed locations. While procuring the solution from an experienced VPN service provider, the team had three top priorities:
- Unlike public internet services, the MPLS had to build a network where traffic would never be monitored by third parties and therefore would have a high level of security
- The solution was required with the feasibility to prioritise mission-critical traffic when employees were using multiple applications in parallel
- Besides high availability, the network was also required to have a redundancy advantage, if the active link experienced any technical issue, traffic could seamlessly pass through an alternative link until the primary service was restored
The networking service had to be backed by an SLA for committed uptime, meantime-to-resolve, latency, jitter and packet loss. Finding the best offers on such parameters from TTBS, the news aggregator decided to go with the Smart VPN solution.
TTBS Solution
Our solution architects configured the organisation’s private network using Smart VPN. They connected all the work locations on the VPN using MPLS as the primary connectivity option and broadband as the secondary or failover option.
The setup was designed in a way that in the rare case of a downtime issue on the main line, the traffic flow would stay active by seamlessly switching over to the broadband backup.
TTBS provided the company with the private network it needed, meeting the expectations that were specified upfront:
- The network was private and secure, unexposed to the risks of public internet services and employees’ browsing activities could not be traced by third parties.
- With Class of Service attributes, Smart VPN allowed the network administrators to prioritise the functioning of Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP), video and other bandwidth-intensive apps in a multi-application environment.
- Our solution architects had taken measures for automatic failover and they took special care to maintain the redundancy advantage with dual last-mile internet for high availability.
TTBS’ enterprise-grade Smart VPN came with an end-to-end SLA with specific commitments on low jitter, latency and packet loss. The SLA also mentioned the high network uptime and the quick meantime-to-resolve to support business continuity round-the-clock.
