The enterprise was aware of SIP trunk’s benefits in consolidating communication systems as it operates in the IT industry. When it needed to reduce its monthly phone bills fori nternational calls, it chose Tata Tele Business Services (TTBS) for this internet- based calling solution.

Business Challenge

To connect with overseas clients and prospects, the company was running a regular outbound call campaign using Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) gateways. However, the following factors made this a costly and inefficient practice:

  • Using a dialer server co-located at another organisation’s data centre, our customer was paying a significant extra fee besides the call charges (billed at 60 seconds pulse) to their telecom service provider
  • The last- mile connectivity service at the customer’s premises was complex to access and scale
  • The PSTN setup’s maintenance charges made the solution costlyier and a poor value proposition

The company was looking for a cost effective voice call solution and wanted the dialer setup to be hosted within their office premises. They preferred a customised plan involving a 15 seconds pulse as against a 60 seconds pulse rate for billing call charges.

TTBS Solution

After analysing the customer’s constraints and weighing the options, TTBS offered its Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Trunk solution. The network would help the company deploy an internet connection for costeffective phone services. It would also enable end-to-end voice communication along with video and chat channels.

Replacing multiple PSTN lines with a single link providing channels for 150 simultaneous calls, which could be scaled further, helped the enterprise manage its communication with international clients more efficiently.

SIP is the most popular voice over internet protocol (VoIP) system. To address the company’s special needs, our team used a tailored approach by:

  • Using a G.711 narrow band audio codec for uncompressed high-quality voice service
  • Terminating the SIP Trunk on the asterisk autodialer, which is an efficient predictive dialer with in-built features for campaign management, agent management, contact management, and dashboard reports
  • Offering 150 channels on a single link to enable simultaneous handling of 150 calls

We deployed the SIP solution on the customer’s ethernet-based internet service and gave them the desired pulse rate of 15 seconds for more savings on bills. The number of channels on the link could be easily scaled to 1500. The service was also less expensive than traditional PSTN lines and provided better redundancy against sudden system failures.
