Established Garment Manufacturer Unites Factory, Warehouse, and Office on a Private Network, by Leveraging Smart VPN
Introduction
Founded in 1995, in Mumbai, the company manufactures shirting, suiting, and other garments in PV, PC, CVS, and cotton varieties. Its products meet BIS standards and work in collaboration with Mafatlal Industries Ltd.
The company specialises in designing uniforms for several organisations ranging from schools and colleges to hospitals, hotels, and the aviation sector. It has launched more than 1000 unique designs in the market and is known for the topnotch quality of its products.
To bring their factories, warehouses, and the central office on a private online network, the team needed MPLS connectivity. The aim was to connect the staff at manufacturing and storage sites with the management personnel at company headquarters for better coordination of work and usage of enterprise applications.
Tata Tele Business Services’ (TTBS’) experience and expertise at optimising data connectivity, its long-term customer relationships with some of the most respected brands in India and abroad, and the end-to-end SLAs that make its solutions more valuable, encouraged the garment manufacturing company to be our customer.
Business Challenges
While the organisation’s factory, warehouse, and office were connected online, it needed to privatise this connectivity and get better uptime for seamless communication.
The top challenges that made it necessary to upgrade the data connectivity model were:
- Employees at production and storage sites faced difficulties in accessing and working with enterprise applications due to high latency and frequent network downtime issues.
- The internet services used by the dispersed work locations were in both wired and wireless forms and sourced from different vendors; hence, the connectivity was not secure from cyber threats.
- There was no SLA to guarantee network performance in terms of low jitter and packet loss.
The company needed reliable networking technology and feasibility to prioritise real-time traffic on bandwidth-intensive applications such as VoIP and video. It also expected cost-effective scalability.
TTBS Solution
TTBS provided its MPLS-based Smart VPN solution to connect all three work locations owned by the organisation. Using MPLS’ hub-and-spoke topology, TTBS solution architects set up the connectivity links for the warehouse on RF media, for the head office on copper last-mile, and the factory on LTE with SIM bonding solution.
All employees at the spoke locations (warehouse and factory) could connect seamlessly with the hub (head office) on this private enterprise network with high uptime and redundancy. Because MPLS avoids complex lookups in the routing table, communications became more efficient.
Smart VPN addressed the issues that the garment manufacturing company had been facing:
- The high-bandwidth apps now performed faster and could be accessed instantly from any location.
- There was a noticeable improvement in network uptime, as the TTBS team monitored it round-the-clock, ensuring recovery in less than 50 milliseconds in case there was a connectivity problem.
- The VPN, being a private enterprise network, was not exposed to the risks of the public internet.
- Latency, jitter, and packet loss were strictly under control as per the terms and conditions of an end-to-end SLA.
Built with MPLS technique, the network also became more scalable; TTBS could easily add more IP VPNs to extend the mesh connectivity in sync with the company’s growth.
Smart VPN built a single network for the organisation’s offices and other work locations. It also brought CoS for data transmission to use voice, video, and other business-critical applications more efficiently.
Benefits
- Improved team collaboration with seamless connectivity between work locations
- Future-ready architecture for growing business requirements
- More efficient business apps’ usage on a highperforming private network
- Optimised cybersecurity with no exposure to vagaries of the public internet
- Higher uptime along with ease of prioritising traffic on the wide-area network
