Founded in 1972, the company manufactures chemical intermediates and is one of the earliest adopters of the ‘Make in India’ philosophy. It has a 70% market share in India for inorganic compounds used in several industries. The company also exports its products to global markets.
Over the years, the company has significantly diversified its offerings, and its portfolio currently includes more than 100 chemical products. The organisation partners with Fortune 500 companies and has over 700 satisfied business customers across the APAC region, Europe, Africa, North America, and South America. Its plants have a production capacity of 320-kilo tonnes per annum.
The company is headquartered in Vadodara (Gujarat), while its manufacturing facilities are located in different cities of Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Telangana. It was essential to connect 10 of these branches to its data centres in two states.
Tata Tele Business Services (TTBS) is the leading provider of data services such as MPLS, internet leased lines, and SD-WAN in India. Our Smart VPN solution, which builds MPLS based networks to connect different worksites of an enterprise, is used by many organisations across verticals.
When the chemical manufacturing company’s senior IT team members checked Smart VPN’s features in our portfolio, they asked us to connect their worksites using the same technology.
The enterprise needed secure connectivity to bring ten of its manufacturing plants on a private network that would also allow them to stay linked to the data centres in Vadodara and Hyderabad. It was essential to facilitate access to ERP servers for employees handling different operations.

Business Challenges
With worksites in different Indian cities, the company had diverse requirements for data and voice connectivity. It had been using such solutions from TTBS and another vendor. However, for more consistent quality, and reliability of services, the team wanted to switch to a single service provider.
In particular, there was a need to connect three contact centre offices with the head office on a private and secure network. In building this connectivity the key aims were:
- SLA-backed uptime and on-site troubleshooting support within clearly defined timelines (instead of a ‘best-effort’ basis)
- Secure access to cloud applications and assurance that they would function with minimal latency and jitter
- Hassle-free and cost-effective scalability of the network to add more work sites when required
In addition, the company wanted the connectivity solution package from a single service provider who would monitor the network’s performance and maintain it optimally.
TTBS Solution
With its building blocks of MPLS, Internet VPN and Secure Connect, TTBS Smart VPN is a trusted solution for private networking.
To connect the chemical manufacturing company’s ten branches with Vadodara and Hyderabad data centres, we used our standard MPLS service with Layer3 Virtual Private Network (L3VPN).
With the dual hub-and-spoke network topology we also enabled simultaneous access to the data centre (DC) and disaster recovery (DR) backup.
Smart VPN came with the features that the company had expected:
- We provided the service with an end-to-end SLA that guaranteed uptime of 99.5%, and a documented mean-time-to-resolve any downtime issues.
- MPLS offered redundancy benefits. Connectivity was not interrupted even if the primary link went down. The backup link was automatically activated to support operations.
- Since it was a private network isolated from the risks of standard internet services, employees could access their internal ERP applications and cloud apps – provided by Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and IBM Softlayer – without the threats of cyber attacks and data theft attempts.
- With the flexibility of IP VPN, the solution was highly scalable for network expansion without capital expenditure on complex hardware and equipment.
TTBS is the single service provider, managing the network’s performance for the company. We ensure that the latency, jitter, and packet loss are controlled as per provisions of the SLA.
MPLS establishes secure connectivity between geographically distant work locations. It also facilitates QoS to help users make the best use of voice, video and other bandwidth-intensive applications.
