International Airport in India Upgrades to Smart ILL for Robust Security and Bandwidth


Introduction

Our customer is an international airport holding the distinction of being the first Greenfield Airport in India, established on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. It led to a revolution in the country’s aviation industry with the privatisation of several other airports across states.

The airport connects 61 domestic and 14 international destinations and has recorded phenomenal growth since it commenced operations, serving 33.65 million passengers in 2019. The modernised technologies used at its premises include contactless passenger processing, a self bag drop system, and biometricbased self-boarding.

The airport authorities were looking to upgrade their internet service and sought a secure and speedy connectivity solution to support 24*7*365 operations seamlessly. It had to be a dedicated line with no compromise on performance and user experience.

Business Challenges

Round-the-clock connectivity is critical for airport operations. The internet service the customer had been using was unable to keep up with their dynamic requirements. There was a need for more bandwidth, reliable security, and better visibility into network performance.

The top challenges faced by the users were:

  • The flow of data within the airport and other entities was conceivably unprotected from cyber threats as the existing internet service was not adequately optimised with security measures.
  • Unexpected downtime issues disrupted services, resulting in passenger discontentment and loss of productivity for employees handling front and back-office duties.
  • The airport wanted to avoid all network congestion issues and was keen on an SLA-backed solution committed to low latency and packet drops.

The airport teams also required an uncontended and easy-to-administer internet connection running directly between the service provider and their premises to communicate and transact securely over the internet.

TTBS Solution

Our solution architects configured Smart ILL for the airport using their routers. As a dedicated internet connection, it came with symmetric 1:1 download and upload speeds.

Smart ILL’s deployment addressed the challenges affecting operational efficiency at the airport:

  • With its Cisco DNS cloud security, the service actively protected internet usage from malware, ransomware, botnets, phishing attacks, and threats like command & control callbacks.
  • TTBS committed an uptime of 99.5% under an end-to-end enterprise SLA, which also guaranteed round-the-clock technical support and quick resolution of complaints.
  • The SLA further covered low packet loss and POP-to-POP latency for the best browsing experience and optimum functioning of cloud applications used in routine workflows.

The IT administrators and other authorised personnel could effortlessly log in to the online reporting dashboard for insights into bandwidth usage and overall network performance.

With Smart ILL supporting the airport’s online processes, the employees got private data and VoIP connectivity. The outcome was fewer delays in content uploads and downloads, along with a solid ability to use cloud-based services hosted on any server globally.

The airport could also scale the bandwidth range anytime in future.
