The organisation is a co-operative bank headquartered in Mumbai and has five branches in Maharashtra. The bank offers a wide array of financial services, including savings deposits, recurring deposits, and loans for individuals and businesses.
In line with the modern facilities offered by commercial banks, this co-operative bank also provides net banking, RTGS, and IMPS solutions to its customers. Other services include Atal Pension Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana.
The bank needed to establish a private network on which all its branches would receive secure and seamless access to the core banking applications and data centre. This called for MPLS-based connectivity, and the bank approached Tata Tele Business Services (TTBS) for the solution.

Business Challenges
The bank had deployed its core banking and ERP software, to be used by all branches, to check customers’ account information, financial data, and other details used in routine banking operations. It was necessary to keep them connected to the main data centre where these applications were based.
Accessing enterprise applications and communicating across branches through basic broadband connectivity were not secure practices. This propelled the bank to seek a private network with:
- High uptime and low latency, jitter, and packet loss
- Flexibility to prioritise traffic as per real-time business needs during peak usage hours
- Ease of monitoring application performance and bandwidth consumption
The co-operative bank wanted SLA-backed services with Class of Service (CoS) for the high-speed performance of its applications round-the-clock.
TTBS Solution
TTBS deployed its MPLS solution with L3 VPN for the customer. The service connected all five branches seamlessly to the main data centre that hosted core banking applications and ERP software. It also improved the bandwidth for consistent traffic movement within the network.
Bypassing the limitations of public internet services, TTBS’ MPLS solution addressed the problems that the bank had been facing:
- MPLS enhanced the network uptime and allowed traffic to be quickly redirected through an alternative route if there was a connectivity outage on the main path.
- The bank also got CoS benefit to control bandwidth, latency, jitter, and packet loss. This attribute improved the performance of critical banking apps and software, even during peak traffic load hours.
- The MPLS VPN solution allowed for CoS monitoring. The bank could check its network performance with user-friendly tools, and TTBS provided quick troubleshooting wherever required, ensuring that all endusers get optimum experience throughout the network.
With the deployment of MPLS, the bank now had a single service provider (TTBS) for data services at all branch locations. The network uptime of 99.5% and roundthe-clock service support were guaranteed under an end-to-end SLA.
MPLS helps to avoid traffic congestion, offers a secure transport mode for data packets, and is not exposed to denial-of-service attacks that impact pure-IP-based networks.
