Magic Bus, an Education NGO for Kids, Leverages Smart Internet and Zoom to Boost Productivity, Collaboration
Introduction
Founded in 1999, Magic Bus India Foundation, is an NGO that educates children and teenagers, equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need to become self-dependent and rise out of poverty. The efforts are focused on taking them from a childhood full of challenges to a sustainable life with regular earnings.
The NGO has already transformed the lives of one million young people. As per records, 76% of the adolescents enrolled for its programmes have completed education till 10th standard as compared to the national average of 69%. With its learning and skill building activities, the organization has also helped reduce the risks of child marriage.
Working alongside multiple partners and with affiliations in the US, UK, Germany, and a number of Asian countries, the NGO needed to improve its collaboration with these parties. For this, it sought more reliable internet connectivity and a virtual collaboration platform.
Tata Tele Business Services (TTBS) had served the organisation earlier and for this communication setup upgrade too, the management team contacted us. It was interested in our internet leased line (ILL) Smart Internet service and also wanted to procure Zoom through us as TTBS is an official Indian partner of the globally popular video conferencing solution.
Business Challenges
To ensure efficient coordination of its activities supported by teams in India and abroad, the NGO needed an audio-video conferencing software and speedy internet service to support it. The free applications it had been using were not effective in enabling anytime-anywhere communication. For example, while some apps were used in India, they could not be easily accessed by individuals and organizations in other parts of the world.
Slow internet speed also made things worse. With high latency, jitter and packet loss, it was sometimes difficult to use email and download files from the internet. In such scenario, the NGO had some specific requirements while procuring new connectivity solutions:
- The internet solution had to have an SLA backed uptime, high upload and download speeds, and low latency
- The video conferencing app had to provide the freedom of usage on any device and the flexibility to accommodate around 100 participants
- The app was also expected to offer the ability to share screens and record online meetings for future reference
The team was looking for a secure, user-friendly, and scalable service to make its virtual meetings more productive and engaging. It also wanted resilient uptime. The ILL solution was also required with similar features to fuel the cloud applications.
TTBS Solution
Our solution architects configured Smart Internet. This upgrade from their basic broadband service was quick and seamless. It did not involve significant changes in the existing infrastructure.
The next step was to activate a suitable Zoom plan for the NGO. Once the app was configured for the staff members, they could login to it via an internet browser or use the mobile app on their smartphones. It became easier to organise social campaigns and coordinate with teams working from different locations.
The solutions provided were up to the NGO’s expectations on all fronts:
- With Smart Internet, download and upload speeds improved and became symmetric in 1:1 ratio
- The SLA backed uptime for Smart Internet was 99.5% and the bandwidth was scalable up to 1 GBPS
- Zoom could be used from any device and made it feasible to organise meetings and webinars with not merely hundred, but up to 1000 attendees
- Meeting participants could share their screens with a single click or tap on the screen and the organisers could record the sessions and save files in HD quality.
The NGO was happy to get these services from TTBS and appreciated the security features that made them more valuable for processes that involved sensitive data. Encouraged by the successful deployment of the solutions, the NGO is now interested in another TTBS offering - Microsoft 365 – as we have also partnered with Microsoft for the deployment of its cloud collaboration platform in India.
