The organisation is a healthcare trust in Hyderabad providing medical facilities to financially-challenged people at a discounted fee. It runs a well-equipped hospital that offers in-patient and out-patient care against numerous diseases.
Launched in 2007 before the State of Telangana was carved out of Andhra Pradesh, the trust provides eligible people with a unique health card that they can use in government hospitals to receive cashless treatment for any common health problem. To enable effective implementation of the schemes, the State government has set up this trust under the chairmanship of the IAS Officer.
With multiple healthcare centres and administrative offices across Andhra Pradesh, the trust desired to establish a private online network that would connect securely. It needed a Multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) based virtual private network (VPN) and contacted Tata Tele Business Services (TTBS) for the solution.
TTBS has implemented MPLS VPNs for several well-known banks and businesses in India. Our fibre optic network spans more than 132000 km across the country. We provide multiple connectivity options and solutions. Service Level Agreement (SLA) guarantees high uptime with troubleshooting and scaling services within strict timelines. Consequently, the healthcare trust chose TTBS to connect its dispersed centres.
Business Challenges
The trust had to connect six work locations in Andhra Pradesh on a private network that would allow employees to collaborate and use cloud applications more securely.
The factors influencing managed and cost-effective network setup as are follows:
- Need for disaster recovery (DR) provision for continuous access to the applications through Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Network infrastructure must be simple with SLA-backed uptime and predictable jitter and latency.
- Setup must have sufficient bandwidth for simultaneous usage of voice and video communication apps and other business-critical software.
As the healthcare services offered are growing exponentially, the trust is planning to set up additional centres in future and needs cost-effective network scalability
TTBS Solution
To deploy a private MPLS network, we offered a Smart VPN solution that includes Secure Connect. It links businesses to leading cloud service providers, including AWS. The trust is a consistent user of this application.
We deployed this solution in partnership with Tata Communications Ltd. (TCL). Our solution architects provisioned a bandwidth of 100 MBPS between the trust’s work locations and the interconnection point with its communication service provider (CSP).
The new MPLS VPN connected the trust’s state-wide branches securely and provided the facilities that the trust required –
- We used a Data Centre (DC) – DR (DC-DR) setup to continuously use AWS cloud applications. If the DC link fails, the traffic gets redirected via the DR route.
- Our team built a simple network using tried and tested MPLS technology with an end-to-end SLA providing an uptime guarantee of 99.5%.
- Our team uses a bandwidth of 100 MBPS to run multiple applications with strongly controlled jitter and latency.
Along with predictable performance on MPLS and high throughput, Secure Connect simplified the scale of the network. We could add more sites on the VPN whenever the trust needed such expansion.
Smart VPN’s Secure Connect feature allows the users to connect privately to their cloud service provider, bypassing the vulnerabilities of public internet services.
