Stumpp, Schuele & Somappa enables home buying experience in 3D using VR

Stumpp, Schuele & Somappa is leveraging VR to allow home buyers to visualize, interact with, design and experience their homes in immersive 3D.

Imagine “stepping foot” into your dream interior even if it doesn’t exist yet. What if you can visualize, interact with, and experience 3D prototypes of your homes—even before they are constructed. And be careful, when you reach out to touch that furniture, you might just poke an architect standing just beyond you and your virtual reality (VR) goggles.

One company is making this possible. Bangalore-based Stumpp, Schuele & Somappa (SSS) is leveraging VR to cut through the uncertainty and allowing prospective buyers with immersive, virtual versions of properties, architects and designers that will revolutionize the manner in which they interact with real and proposed spaces.

“For spaces under construction, still in the design phase or too far away to tour, prospective home-owners can only speculate about what their experiences will be. With this solution one can now see how each corner of their house would appear even before it’s built. Clients can literally be brought into the project, and this is what makes the design a more human experience,” says Ravi Machani, Joint Managing Director, Stumpp, Schuele & Somappa.

Goggles on, checks away

A client is now able to put on a virtual reality headset and see what they are paying for. The solution has been created by using various CADD softwares and gaming engines that runs within the hardware.

“We take a lot of inputs. For example if it’s an interior space, we take inputs in terms of the CADD designs of the space, then the various the interior objects that go in like the dining table, sofa, lighting etc. All these inputs are then incorporated and at the output we generate software that runs in the VR environment,” says Sri Karumbatti, CIO, Stumpp, Schuele & Somappa.

Using this tool the SSS has been able to iterate through multiple designs. Without this solution, the iterations would have been expensive. For instance, the company has done a lot of damage mitigation with parking structures by virtually simulating them.

“For customers, it is the best way of previewing a design as it allows you to look around your new space before the design has been executed. The result is confidence in design and purchasing decisions and a lot of saved time and money,” says Machani.

The solution is also gaining bonus points from the architects involved. Competing in an ever evolving marketplace where time is precious, architects are able to present a spectrum of possible ideas to clients one at a time.

“We just don’t do interior visualizations. We are also an assimilation company. So our technology can be used for providing training in a medical space or in defence. So we just don't limit ourselves to visualizations. So it a large gamut of things that we are capable of doing using this solution,” informs Karumbatti.
