Introduction
With centres in Delhi and NCR, the company is a renowned brand in medical diagnostics, trusted widely by patients and clinicians. Its medical test and diagnosis facilities range from X-Ray, MRI scans, CT scans to pathology services, cardiology tests, and neurology tests.
The company also offers customised body health check-up packages at affordable prices. These include multiple tests for people of all ages and those affected by diabetes, cardiac problems, obesity, thalassemia, anaemia, and arthritis.
As the teams were working from different labs and diagnosis centres, they needed to stay connected for a secure exchange of information. Multiple locations were to be connected to a hub based in New Delhi. To build this network the company had to use internet routing over multi-protocol label switching (MPLS).
Tata Tele Business Services (TTBS) is well known as a leading provider of MPLS and IP VPN services. In building private online networks for clients, we at TTBS, focus on user experience and ensure that they have an adequate bandwidth for the applications they use regularly. We also monitor network performance proactively and keep it safe from cyber threats. The successful implementation of MPLS networking we’ve handled through the years, encouraged the company to choose TTBS for its connectivity solution.
Business Challenges
The organisation’s dispersed work locations network was not securely linked and the employees could not use cloud platforms efficiently. When the network became congested during peak office hours the user experience suffered considerably. And if they could not process medical reports and bills on time, it also annoyed their customers.
In optimising network performance and making connectivity more secure, the diagnostics company wanted to address some particular pain points:
- It was critical to have reliable network uptime for all sites with automatic failover options on different media.
- All worksites had to be connected on a secure and scalable network, to the hub in New Delhi.
- There was a need for Quality of Service (QoS) to prioritise missioncritical traffic wherever required.
The company’s existing network infrastructure lacked adequate security as it used public internet services. And in the case of an outage, the IT administrators had to manually switch over to an alternative link to keep the digital operations running. The cost of managing the network was also high.
To run routine processes effectively it was essential to move to an SLA backed networking service with carrier-grade capabilities.
TTBS Solution
Having analysed the company’s requirements in depth, TTBS connected its work sites on an MPLS network using full-mesh topology – this was our Smart VPN solution that also comprised Internet VPN through IPSeC tunnelling for autofailover capabilities.
The last mile connectivity was configured using the external border gateway protocol (eBGP). And our solution architects enabled data encryption for the security of communications between teams across locations.
Smart VPN gave the company a high-performing network, and it was a completely managed service that addressed the concerns faced earlier:
- MPLS improved the uptime by reducing the scope for human error in setting up paths across the wide-area network – it came with a fast reroute feature so that traffic could be automatically switched to the alternative route if there was an outage on the primary link.
- Multiple worksites – labs, medical test centres and other offices – were now seamlessly connected on a robust network and with the hub in New Delhi.
- The solution came with traffic engineering and QoS capabilities through which the IT administrators could prioritise mission-critical traffic during peak hours.
- While facing network congestion, the IT team could also route comparatively delay-tolerant traffic to slower, circuitous, and less utilised links, freeing up capacity on lower-latency overcrowded paths.
With VPN security, the company could keep the data in transit encrypted, and the network also became more scalable – TTBS could add more IP VPNs to extend the mesh connectivity in sync with the company’s growth.
The solution was provided with an end-to-end SLA for guaranteed uptime and mean time to resolve any network issue
Unlike conventional VPNs, TTBS Smart VPN does not need special software for installation on each device. And it builds a secure and flexible working environment without costly maintenance.
