Introduction
The Nagpur-based urban cooperative bank is a prominent business in the BFSI industry with three branches in the city. It provides services such as current and savings accounts, personal and business loans, mortgage facilities, and other cooperative banking solutions.
Private and secure connectivity between different branches is a critical need for any BFSI enterprise. To fulfil the same requirement for its own network, the bank contacted Tata Tele Business Services (TTBS) for the requisite MPLS technology. While other communication service providers also offer the solution, TTBS’ broad network reach and support system were the decisive factors that encouraged the bank to choose our team for its deployment.
Business Challenges
The bank had been using a basic broadband service that lacked the reliability to support its workflows. Its consumer-grade networking technology also proved inadequate in keeping the three branches seamlessly connected.
Running operations on this vanilla broadband service led to other constraints:
- The absence of a dedicated bandwidth with the service caused frequent network congestion issues. It was challenging to run the banking applications used in daily operations. File uploads and downloads were slow.
- Cybersecurity was another concern for which the bank needed a reliable solution. It was critical to keep the connectivity protected from the risks inherent to public internet services.
- The lack of Quality of Service (QoS) prevented the bank from prioritising the traffic flow as per its requirements. The broadband solution was also not backed by an SLA.
The bank’s leadership group finalised its decision to deploy the technology after understanding the benefits of MPLS in a discussion with TTBS’ engineers. They also asked us to complete the configuration within a short timeframe and a stipulated budget.
TTBS Solution
While configuring our MPLS solution for the customer, we also integrated the Layer 3 VPN (L3VPN) service. The stability and reliability of this VPN was an added advantage for a bank that needed to bring its branches on a secure and shared network.
The deployment resolved different problems:
- The hub and spoke configuration set up by our team used a seamless MPLS structure to optimise the existing backhaul network. This helped to connect the three sites with higher bandwidth and reduced latency while supporting multiple applications.
- As a traffic routing mechanism using private channels, MPLS offered more robust security than the basic broadband connection the bank had been using. Partitioning the VPN from the public internet made it a secure mode invulnerable to denial-of-service attacks.
- Besides enabling any-to-any connectivity for the bank’s site, our MPLS L3VPN could be easily managed for QoS to get the best performance from real-time and enterprise applicatio
The bank’s current VPN architecture is seamlessly scalable and can accommodate many more new sites on the same secure network. The service has been provided with an end-to-end SLA, promising optimal bandwidth and quick failover. Our technical support team is available round-the-clock to handle any customer query.

MPLS VPN securely brought the three bank branches on a unified network. By enabling routers to tag and forward data packets based on their class of service specifications, it also helped in running multiple data heavy applications via a single connection.
