Introduction

The enterprise is a private all-weather deepwater port developed on a BuildOperate-Transfer basis under a public-private partnership. It covers an area of 600 acres in Puducherry and handles diverse cargo, including coal, cement, fertilisers, agro commodities, sugar, and liquid chemicals.

The ISO 9001 and 14001 OHSAS 18001-certified organisation employs state-ofthe-art cargo handling and transportation equipment. Aiming to be India’s most preferred and responsible maritime gateway, it has also received multiple awards for excellence in operations, employment policies, and CSR initiatives.

Their traditional PBX telephony and free video chatting applications failed to meet their requirements for more effective collaboration with stakeholders and global clients and compelled the team to switch to user-friendly and secure audio-video communication software. To get an SLA-backed service from an established brand, the team chose Zoom, which is now offered to enterprises in India under the aegis of Tata Tele Business Services (TTBS).

Business Challenges

As the port’s cargo handling operations grew and generated more revenues, it also needed to streamline its virtual collaboration setup. The team was looking for a flexible cloud-based meeting platform to connect from desktops, mobile devices, and conference rooms.

The main challenges to be addressed by the application were:

  • Allowing 100s of participants to join a webinar from any part of the world
  • Keeping meetings and all content shared therein secure
  • Enabling meeting organisers to share screens with clients and record sessions for reference

Although the video conferencing products’ market is replete with numerous products claiming such features, the organisation was keen on the ease of usage in its official collaboration platform. It also wanted the meeting software to integrate seamlessly with its business applications for participants to refer quickly to any data needed during a session.

TTBS Solution

The central idea behind the TTBS-Zoom partnership in India is to provide an intuitive, secure, and scalable unified communication service to enterprises whose virtual collaboration has increased over the past decade. The need to have a readily usable audio-video conferencing app became more critical after the COVID19 outbreak.

We provided a custom Zoom package to the port with all the features to facilitate the team’s communication with their global clientele. Per the number of attendees in a conference, they could use Zoom Meetings, Zoom Webinars, and Zoom Rooms for close-to-real collaboration experiences.

The platform met the customer’s expectations seamlessly:

  • They could organise any online conference or virtual event with 1000s of attendees – across geographies – including 100 users with interactive video participation.
  • All meetings were secure with password-based joining, waiting rooms, and role-based access to advanced features.
  • The content shared in any session was also protected by AES-256 encryption.
  • Sharing screens and recording any session was simple with single clicks. The meeting organisers could store the clips in Zoom’s private cloud, providing easy convenience to authorised participants without waiting for emails carrying heavy attachments.

As preferred by the customer, Zoom was easy to operate for all their employees, and the clients were also happy to use a globally accepted platform for meetings. In addition, it was easy to scale as and when required.
