Multi-Port Logistics Company Adopts Fleet Management Solution to Boost Operational Efficiency


Introduction

The company is a logistics service provider offering transportation solutions for dry cargo such as metal ores, coal, steel and forest products, and grains. Founded in 1985, they have acquired a skilled team of stevedores for loading and unloading materials and maintain a fleet of well-maintained trucks to provide customer-centric transportation services.

The company is headquartered in Mundra (Gujarat), with operations spread across several Indian ports to handle shipping, warehousing, inventory management, packaging, and security functions for its clients’ consignments.

The company was keen on investing in telematics to innovate its service delivery and become more competitive. Business Challenges

The logistics company needed a robust GPS app to track the consignments and provide customers with accurate updates on the pickups, transit, and deliveries. Safety concerns made it impractical to call drivers on their mobile phones for vehicle locations.

  • Reflect the real-time location of vehicles carrying the cargo to/from different locations

The administrative team also wanted to track driver behaviour on each trip to deroster drivers not complying with traffic rules.

Lastly, keeping track of all trips in a unified database was necessary to avoid overburdening drivers and run a more even trip allocation.

TTBS Solution

TTBS offered its Fleet Management system to the customer. The GPS device fitted in the trucks had up to eight hours of battery backup. The company could track all information on their whereabouts on a map via a web portal or mobile app.

The system helped their back-office team check the live location of any vehicle on duty. Its custom sensors also allowed them to monitor driving behaviour, including over-speeding, excessive idling, harsh braking, and fuel consumption. They received alerts via SMS/emails whenever the sensors recorded unsafe driving patterns.

Fleet Management met the logistics company’s requirements and gave them more visibility into their operations than the disparate phone and email services had provided:

  • The back-office staff received all information on a vehicles’ real-time progress from the time they left a pickup point to reach the assigned delivery destination.
  • The teams also got notifications whenever vehicles entered or exited a particular area using the geofencing feature.
  • The software enabled them to set up alerts for pickups and deliveries to organise the cargo effectively and keep customers updated.
  • Per its requirement, the company could integrate the TTBS Fleet Management with its CRM app to allocate trips to different vehicles according to their availability and mileage.
